Workshare Program
Workshare Quick Facts
- Off-sets the cost of our CSA program
- Allows you to build a relationship with your food by being involved with its production
- Is a great way to get a dose of fresh air and step away from your daily pattern
- Workshare members are a part of the Urban Farm and help Crabtree Farms complete our daily, weekly and yearly goals
Crabtree Farms workshare program is an excellent way to be involved in urban farming, and to reap the best benefit there is- clean, healthy food! Workshares essentially work 5 hours a week in exchange for a full CSA box every week. The program provides Crabtree Farms with consistent, reliable help while offering our knowledge and produce. 2012 marks the third year of the successful, mutually beneficial program.
How does workshare work?
Starting in April, workshare members volunteer every week, same day same time, through our growing season, which lasts until the third week in November. This commitment is a total of 33 weeks with 3 weeks allowed for vacation time. Workshares receive their first CSA box in May and then pick up a box each week until Thanksgiving when the CSA program ends.
Because the workshare program covers the entire growing season, those who are involved will see produce start in the greenhouse, help plant in the fields, keep it weed free, and help harvest for CSA boxes, wholesale and market. Workshare witness Spring, Summer and Fall on the farm, learning about a large variety of crops and growing conditions.
