Workshare Program
Crabtree Farms’ Workshare Program allows individuals to work alongside the Farm Team and the Nursery Team to manage 3 acres of produce production space. Participants will be taught how to care for the soil and plants. Workshares have the opportunity to be engaged in their community in a meaningful way by joining Crabtree Farms in its mission to expand access to locally grown food, provide farm based educational opportunities, and cultivate community.
Workshare volunteers commit to seasonal sessions (3 months long) and have a scheduled 3-hour workday each week — in exchange for a biweekly produce bag. Acceptance into the program is based on availability, willingness to work hard, and an interest in collaborative learning! Crabtree Farms works to be accessible to all – please let us know if you need any accessibility accomodations.
Please note: All workshare applicants must first participate in at least one volunteer shift with either the Farm Team or Nursery. Sign up for your first volunteer shift on our Bloomerang portal!

Get Your Hands Dirty
Volunteers learn about sustainable agriculture through hands-on experiences. Volunteering is a great activity for individuals, groups, or families. We always need extra hands on the farm for a variety of projects! View and sign up for our current volunteer opportunities here:
Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference in teams for volunteer shifts?
We have 2 volunteer teams: The Farm Team and the Plant Nursery Team. Each of these teams has certain days where they can accept volunteers and each team has their own workshares.
The Plant Nursery Team tasks involve germinating seeds, propagation, and potting plants, whereas the Farm Team tasks involve planting in the fields, harvesting and processing produce, and plant/land maintenance.
- What is the difference between being a volunteer and a workshare?
The difference between being a volunteer and a workshare is that a workshare agrees to volunteer each week on the same day for the entire season. For this commitment, the workshare receives a bi-weekly produce bag consisting of freshly harvested produce and sometimes plants valued at about $30. If you are interested in becoming a workshare, please first sign up for a regular volunteer shift with either team you’re interested in and let that team leader know you are interested in the workshare program.
- Can I bring a volunteer group for a service day at Crabtree Farms?
Yes! We love hosting volunteer groups – especially when we are gearing up for an event like our Spring and Fall Plant Sales and 100 Dinner! Please proceed with the volunteer link above and follow the prompts for volunteer groups within the desired opportunities. Please note, for all volunteer groups we do have a maximum capacity of 60.
